The word jade actually covers two different minerals: nephrite and jadeite. Both are extremely tough, and axes were once made from them. Colours range from pale green to emerald, with white and lavender varieties too.

In China jade was valued more than gold and stood for nobility, purity and long life. Today it is known as a stone of luck and inner balance. It is often given at the start of a new chapter in life.
