In folk belief clothes put on inside out by accident are a sign: some say of trouble, others that they protect you from the evil eye. Both versions are still alive.
Good sign or bad?
One version says inside-out clothes bring an awkward moment, a quarrel or gossip. The other says it is a protective sign: the evil eye gets confused and cannot touch you.
Should you change?
Folk custom says that if you put something on inside out by accident, it is better to wear it that way for a while, or to have someone tap you on the clothes before you change to brush the bad luck away. Others just change at once and forget about it.
Where does it come from?
The exact origin is unknown. Some European folklore treated wearing clothes inside out as protection against evil spirits. Today it is mostly just a funny morning story.
