- dream meaning
A spider in a dream is a double symbol: on one hand patience and creativity, on the other a situation in which you feel tangled. In folk tradition a spider often foretells a letter or news.
Folk meaning
In folk tradition a spider in the house foretells good news, a letter or a guest. In some families killing a spider is not considered a good sign. A web is traditionally linked to a situation that is hard to get out of.
Psychological meaning
Psychologists say a spider often reflects fear or a sense of manipulation, as if someone is spinning a web around you. On the other hand it is a symbol of patience and craft: you too are slowly building something that takes time.
Variations
The spider's size and behaviour show the mood of the dream.
- Caught in a web: a situation that holds you back.
- A big spider: a fear that looks bigger than it is.
- A spider spinning: creative work is going well.
- You chased the spider away: you are getting out of a problem.
What to ask yourself
Where do you feel tangled? Who controls the situation: you or someone else? A spider dream advises patience and careful strategy.
